Slowing Down...

A portrait is more than a picture, even more than a photograph. It is a collaboration between two people either side of a lens that is bought to life with the artist’s vision. It should make you feel; it should slow you down every time you walk past it. To me, the creation of a portrait is a very special experience that celebrates a story of a milestone, an accomplishment, an expression of self. You should want to touch it – as if through that simple tactility, you are reconnecting to that moment in time.

My favourite thing to do in my studio is work towards one final piece and I’ve tried to do this numerous times in my journey and failed. I think I’m ready to lean into this now. You know, I’ve always felt like an artist trapped inside the body of a photographer and this year, that alluring artist’s voice in my head has become louder. Maybe I’m finally ready to listen.

This is going to be one very interesting garden path to travel down.
